The R number of flu is about 1.3.

It really doesn't take a lot to lower the number below 0 and kill an outbreak. Full lockdown will do it no probs, probably just wearing masks and keeping the sick home would.

No. The R number of Covid (original) was 2.5.

About twice as infectious.

Shall I use small words?

If you lower the rate of transmission by intervention and your R0 is 1.3, it goes down to 0.75. No outbreak.

Same intervention lowers 2.5 to 1.75. Outbreak keeps going.
