How does a world war even play out?

I can't imagine that in this day and age we're going to lead full fledged amphibious assualts on landing crafts towards our enemies front. It seems so primitive and flawed now (Even then).

EMP, Satellite weaponry, Economic manipulation, ect. How does this go down? I keep hearing world war with these bullshit videos showing "THE NAVY'S 7TH FLEET HAS BEEN DEPLOYED TO TAIWAN" but something tells me that if it were to break out if would be much less cinematic than what those are believing.

Plus, what about MAD - Mutually Assured Destruction?

They already do economic manipulation in peace time. I also agree amphibious landings will likely never be done again as a frontal assault like they were in ww2.

It'd begin with a limited engagement, a proxy war in a 3rd party nation, border skirmish, conventional missile strike, drones. Sort of things you see now.

But then it escalates. And escalates and escalates until if faced with total war, if it comes down to a nuclear slugfest, the nukes are just going to fly because it's already over kill. And doing things like shooting down enemy sats is just going to tip the hand to the other side. Or make them think you're about to launch before you mean to.

MAD is a good deterrent, it's why we don't see that unending escalation anymore but it's come close.
