So we either have people growing up with paint all over their faces, or we have education, which creates heart surgeons, Mar's lander programs and modern machines to make our lives easier. Which would be better if I had a tooth ache I wonder?

One doesn't need to be creative in order to develop technology/make discoveries etc?

Exactly my point. All you need is the logical expansion of a scientific base. Best taught in schools where young people are sorted by their aptitude. The system isn't perfect but it's better that the free for all creative nature of a dark age where no one is even taught to read or write and the worst elements of the youth end up migrating to roving bandit gangs. Sort of what like you have in East LA and Detroit etc etc.

By repeatedly solving the most obvious problem with the most obvious solution, anything can be done. It isn't very efficient, but it works, and only the bare minimum creativity is required.

How many heart surgeons does it create? Some people are just harder to break.
