Yeah, they are more like practical philosophies. I personally would tie down Stoicism to many martial art principles if I were to reform the ideal.

I read the book by Marcus Aurelius, in English of course, and maybe one other on Stoicism. Six years ago I rode my bicycle through Cambodia. One night I took a wrong road and after dark two Buddhist monks flagged me down and insisted I stay at their temple. I stayed two days and it was an experience I won't forget.
