When Nietzsche usually talked about this concepts, he would usually mention them in an amoral context. Saying that while morals and things like that weren't worthless by themselves, they could get in the way on what was neccesary in order to focus on self-improvement. I think our societies have degenerated to the point that it is hard for most people to feel satisfied with their own efforts. Everyone seems so focused on training by itself or meaningless distractions.
It's up to the people who are aware of the corruption of the human experience to set things right. We are still social beings even as selfish people, so we need at least a meaningful other in order to validate ourselves.
