I'm uncomfortable with how many people, despite being told over and over and over that masks don't even protect YOU from OTHERS who are sick, believe otherwise in the most selfish way possible. Regardless of whether they work at all, the mainstream media even tells them that masks only supposed prevent YOU from getting OTHERS sick. Yet that is the one thing the brainwashed masses refuse to hear. The mask game for the general public is steeped in an extreme level of selfishness, in the belief that everyone else exists to live in a way that doesn't get THEM sick.

Seeing how easily and quickly the fear spread and how efficiently it worked in terms getting people to go along with new rules and restrictions has been one of the most disturbing things I've seen in my lifetime. Not only to most people blindly obey, many also eagerly become enforcers of the rules themselves.

Countless scientists say masks do NOT work, but the [media] gives them no airtime.

Data shows masks are extremely effective in reducing spread on a macro level.

That paper literally only looks at the time frames and attributes positive things from mask-wearing. Sounds about what I'm hearing on the media i.e. correlation and speculation.

Also this:

The authors rightly note that other community-wide and hospital-specific interventions may have contributed to their observation, including the statewide declaration of emergency (March 10), new hospital policies to restrict visitors (March 12) and elective procedures (March 14), statewide school closures and hospital restrictions on business travel and on-site working (March 16), local public transportation reductions (March 17), issuance of statewide stay-at-home orders (March 24), and automation of screening and testing (March 30).

Yep, there is no evidence that the wearing of masks prevents the spread of flu in the general population.

There is evidence that Face Masks Pose Serious Risks to the Healthy.

Here are 12 Experts Who Question the Coronavirus Pandemic

Masks are the only way we're going to be able to open up the economy fully before there's a vaccine.

[–]StBlops2cel_is_Lord 17 insightful - 1 fun17 insightful - 0 fun18 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

open up the economy

It already WAS open, it never should have been shut down.

[–]avena_sativa_3 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (8 children)

If common sense prevailed and everyone would have worn masks from the beginning yes, any kind of shutdown wouldn't have been necessary.

[–]Bl_nk 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Everyone will get it eventually, the risk will never be zero, the consequences of the lockdown are worse than the virus itself.

[–]noice 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

I would say it was common sense that people listened to the leaders who at the beginning said not to wear masks, and that they weren't effective anyway. The orders then were to stay home, a.k.a. shut down the economy.

[–]Turn0ffy0urmind 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

But the economy never shut down. Restaurants and bars closed but there were millions of people going to walmart and every other big box store every day. It seems the criteria for being labeled essential is being a multi billion dollar corporation.

[–]noice 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Ok, cripple the economy then. I do agree about the oddity surrounding what was deemed essential vs non-essential.

[–]Turn0ffy0urmind 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The economy is already crippled people just haven't noticed yet. There were only 2 viable options at the start of the pandemic, shut everything down and have the national guard deliver food to drive through locations or go about business as normal and let the virus run its course. Neither is ideal but if we had a complete lockdown for 6 weeks we would have beat covid, the economy is fucked either way.

[–]avena_sativa_3 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah, they're all criminally negligent imo. In Canada our ones were calling their citizens racist for bringing up concerns about people travelling back from Wuhan being a potential risk.

[–]StBlops2cel_is_Lord 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

https://t.co/Jx2f1yewM5?amp=1

Vaccines usually take 10 - 15 years to be developed. One that is developed in less than a year by the Chinese military is not great. In 2009 the UK government created a vaccine for h1n1 that cause narcolepsy. People have been irreparably harmed by that.

We have a flu vaccine and still we have flu. The vaccine isn't mandatory.

You're going to trust an chemical cocktail untested for safety in a standard double blind study test? With no time or ability to assess long term possible complications. Which is likely only to be less than 60-50% effective in providing immunity.

Wow man, you're pretty cavalier about this whole life thing.

[–]Turn0ffy0urmind 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

What makes you think there's going to be a vaccine? At least one that is proven safe and effective. There are currently no vaccines for any cornavirus approved for human use and the SARS vaccine cause antibody dependant enhancement.

"At this stage of the epidemic, it is like wearing a condom at a baby-shower.."

It only makes sense at the early beginning, to keep infection out of the public.
But as soon it is in the public, it is better to isolate the people that are vulnerable, and strengthen the immune-system to get herd immunity.

In all panic (or propaganda) we have omitted the basic scientific steps that are necessary to separate facts from fiction. So we don't even know what the virus really does, and does not. Our tests are not even scientifically correct.

What I really noticed is that the cures are censored the most. The science backing Hydroxychloroquine and some other medicine are really good and show promising results. But that is not what gets published. Instead we see bullshit science, fake-science and actual murder, just to scare the public and doctors of the medicine.

Instead of wearing masks, we should start putting people in prisons for creating a false alarm epidemic, and for withholding working medicine from people who need it.

And then we have the break down of the economy, and the trillions of dollars of "aid" that go into special selected projects.

The masks are there to stop us from speaking up.

[–]proc0 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

It's a problem when businesses are not selling to people without a mask in many cities. Not much to do about that, the businesses I guess fear the state shutting them down, and people need supplies. Also, it's technically not a big deal on its own, but I would draw the line here and only for a couple more months until election.

[–]yayblueberries 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I got the sense that some businesses around me, big and small, are run by total idiots. They aren't afraid of the state shutting them down, they are just more of the idiots who believe everything they see on the news without any critical thinking whatsoever. They are the ones who believe the entire population has the virus and that the one person who enters their business without a mask is going to make them personally ill, even if they aren't out on the floor.

It's pretty sad that we live in a country where shitty businesses with bad business models pretty much run the entire show. My state did NOT have mandatory masks in its EO, businesses MADE them mandatory, so the entire population here ended up thinking the governor made them mandatory because they do whatever big business says. When you know damn well the manager of your nearest grocery store was probably a high school dropout who got a D in biology.

[–]proc0 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Good point, yeah. Some of these rules make no sense anyway, like using masks in a restaurant until you sit down at your table. So dumb.

[–]King_Brutus 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

As someone already said masks are generally only for preventing you from spreading to others and doesn't protect you from breathing in if someone who is infected is in the area. Generally if people are sick they stay home already so all of this hinges on the unconfirmed "asymptomatic spread" where you are spreading it without knowing.

[–]jet199 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The most concerning thing for me is that we are being made to wear masks because it makes the most whinging section of society feel a little bit better rather than doing so on evidence.

Feelz over realz.

It just shows the state we're in right now.
