      Nuclear fission starts reacting and doesn't stop and if cooling isn't done right it can melt down (continue to burn forever). This is different than an explosive mechanism.

      No it's not. The only difference is the density.

      It's like gunpowder laid out out will burn, but if you pack a bunch together it explodes. Same thing.
