It doesn't surprise me some people are capable of such things. There are all sorts of people, and some have broken brains incapable of compassion or empathy. It sucks, but that's the way it is. Those people need justice.

What surprises me is that the Army is doing this stuff, and the Pentagon is covering for it.

That shows this type of stuff goes all the way to the top, on a regular basis. That's the scariest part of all this, imo. There's no one watching the watchers. There's no "adult in the room" to restore order. It's just a bunch of people, and some are able to cover their crimes better than others because of institutional power. And we imagine the institution roots these people out, but in reality the institution is made of people like these, blackmailing each other with hidden information, striving for more and more power. That's why people who strive for power are so regularly terrible. People who have no morals always have more options available to them than people who have morals, and that lets them climb the power hierarchy. It's mostly corrupt at the top levels. That's why all of us should strive to have nothing to do with it, imo. Just walk away from the power structures, rendering them powerless because they have no minions anymore. That'd be the best. But it requires a lot of people to wake up.
