A lot of the mind control that the elites use depends on taking advantage of people's fears, this is a very interesting read from Kierkegaard.
Kierkegaard believed that in a reflective age, people can only develop a personality by taking risky choices, but people driven out by envy make sure to turn passionate individuals into targets of ridicule. Society is helped in this by the media by attacking the ones who try to make a change and keeping their attention distracted.
Ironically, Kierkegaard also thought that society has come to depend on the idea of the hero at the same time.
