Are people still believing the story that oil is a "fossil fuel".

Coal has a higher energy density than any living material.

There's no mechanism for decomposing biomaterials to increase in energy density.

It's thermodynamically impossible (second law) for energy to flow from a higher lower energy state to a lower higher energy state.

But... Carbonaceous materials could have energy added to them by thermal processes deep within the crust of the planet.

These materials could flow through the bedrock to higher regions, where they could be accessed by drilling, etc.

Which goes a long way towards explaining how oil can be found in nearly every corner of the planet, and tens of thousands of feet below the surface/oceans.

Just saying...
