Social media companies only care about free speech when it benefits them, via their profit margins and their ability to shape and control public opinion.
And what's really funny about this is that so many of the people who cheerfully line up to support companies like Twitter and Reddit being able to police content at will were screaming like souls newly arrived in Hell at the prospect of ISPs being able to throttle content to their benefit. Proving, yet again, that it isn't the control itself that's being objected to, but more who has it when it's put into place.
