I like Peterson. He is one of the most intelligent people around. But I have to disagree with his judgment here. Why is the doctor criminal when Ellen is an adult and fully capable of making her own decisions? People modify thier bodies all the time.

The doctor is perhaps unethical, but not criminal. It is the ones who do this to under aged girls who are criminals.

I guess it's because it seems that Ellen is falling for the trend/hype and the doctor is probably going along with it if not reaffirming it. There are already several detrans people coming out with their stories, and if I had to guess I would think actors/actresses are not in the best state of mind to avoid falling into this for the attention.

I'm sure there is a strong correlation between mental illness an all body modification including tattoos and piercings. But an adult can do what they want. Are plastic surgeons all criminals for doing elective surgeries?

The problem with gender reassignment is that it's targeted at this mentally unhealthy demographic (unlike say regular cosmetic surgeries). Lobotomies used to be legal because they thought it helped crazy people but now we know it's cruel and unethical to scramble your frontal lobe. Not to mention the targeting of kids, which is way worse than targeting those with mental illness.

To be clear, the conversation would be different for me if technology to alter DNA of every cell of the body existed. Right now it's about pretending people can change sexes by hacking the body and giving people experimental drugs, along with silencing people who disagree.
