It really is a shame that the cable companies are still getting away with having monopolies. It is literally illegal and still we can't do anything about it.

if you're not completely rural, you can start your own local wireless ISP. You might even be able to work with not-Comcast.

there's probably one somewhere. you need a T1 line and a tower/roof that gives you line of site to some customers.
