I'm a mod of a number of saidits. I'v never seen that shadow ban button.

do you have access to a "hide/unhide" function? if the hide/unhide function were to be automated either thru some type of automoderator or other automation tool, then you have a shadow ban function.

technically speaking, from the perspective of a moderator, the hide/unhide function IS A SHADOWBAN. It allows me to see my post as if it posted succcessfully, but it HIDES it from other users.

i dont really know much about this topic, but i believe that you could create a CHROME EXTENSION that can automate any WEB BROWSER FUNCTION that you have the privilege to do. you can automate the login process or you can automate replying to posts or you can automate AUTO-HIDING of posts, which is effectively a SHADOW BAN.

It's remove, we can hit remove and there's no notification to you that we did. Hide/unhide just changes visibility for your own individual account, everyone has it.

Saidit isn't heavy on moderation for regular people, but we get spammed to hell with bots and occasionally trolls. That's why the spam measures are cranked up.

The post was clearly shadow banned because someone on the mod team set up the auto+moderator to do that.

Yes, we use automod to catch spam. It also got this guy's post. It's not malicious.

Yes, to be "suspicious" of new accounts, spam comes from a regular stream of new accounts made just to spam us.

I'm all for changing things if the members want it. I don't think anything here is written in stone. If people want to put up with more spam so we don't ever accidentally remove a valid post that's possible. Bring it up in a post if you want.
