It's due to learning about the world via the news rather than going out and experiencing it for yourself.

The world is a very scary place in the TV.

Did they go to catholic school from k-12?

He said they're Christian.

I asked if they went to a catholic school growing up. It's a stricter upbringing.

Many religious sects have strict schools, but he specifically said they're Christian.

Sounds more like they've been immersed in the propaganda so deeply that they can sense things are going off the rails, but can't apprehend why. Hence, they fall back on "voting right" as a solution, just as they've been programmed. Essentially, clueless normies.

It's made very easy for people to not realize our society is essentially a giant Disney World, where our entire experience is curated and censored to create specific effects in us. (buying products and supporting our owners)

Many older people are very set in their ways. It's difficult to change their minds in arguments. A better strategy would be to try to coax them, give them some facts that contradict to their mindset to mull over, but without spelling out what you think those facts mean.

And indeed. It's tempting to swing one way or the other. To think the world would be better if the government left us alone (because surely the way taxes are distributed is far from what would have been the most beneficial to the citizens) or if the government had more power (because now we have gargantuan corporations - monopolies that are able to dictate not just prices we should pay, but with the Big Tech the thoughts we should think).

You're not your parent's peer group so they're probably not even seriously considering your position. Sucks as a kid, I didn't like it myself.
