Because it's a spammer who was intentionally breaking the rules

you removed this link, but this link was the one you posted under christianmusicrealeases 's 'firehose' post, which another user was talking about being a good idea and I went to try and find, but that you removed because you said it had been posted here...

Even when you try to censor "spammers", the person who received the comment can still see it in inbox. idlJ: "I just made an account u/idontlikejews because I was banned from Reddit for saying the election was rigged, and the admins didn't like that so they BANNED me too!! I just saw u/bobbobbybob's post exposing them for censorship so it would be nice if you posted my proof for me until they ban you also... It's obvious that Saidit is controlled by Jews. Everyone here and at Reddit should all go to ruqqus."

Hey, good news. We just pushed an upgrade that makes it so site-wide banned users can no longer PM people or modmail mods (except to the /s/saidit sub to appeal their ban). Cheers!

Yeah /u/d3rr we have banned accounts maliciously PMing large numbers of users... I've gotten 2 reports of this same thing. Maybe we should plug up PMs for banned accounts. Or just allow them to PM admins only or something.

I also got a report today of an account banned like 8 months ago that is still harassing a certain sub's mods via modmail. So maybe we should shut down all modmail and PM abilities for banned accounts? Thoughts?

I thought that banned accounts had all privilege removed during the ban period. Whew, that's an epic opportunity to create chaos and havoc. A ban indicates you've 'dun fucked up, so taking all site advantages away for the term would make sense. Is there a ban period referenced on the rules sheet?

We just recently changed the code so that banned people can't vote anymore. So we'll maybe have to expand that to include no PMing and no modmailing

You could make it so banned accounts can only send 2 pms a day to a mod and all other privileges taken away. That would make it so the wrongfully banned would have a chance to appeal, but not spam.

Yeah that's a good idea, /u/d3rr this might be the best implementation of this idea if we go this route

Timing/rate limits is hard. I'll try for a basic implementation of no PMs if global banned first.

Yeah that'd be more than good enough. If someone felt they got unfairly treated, they can easily just make another account and then PM the admins that way. The rate-limited PM thing for banned accounts is just a luxury add-on idea

This is live. I went with an existing reddit convention (for temporarily banned users), globally banned users are allowed to message /s/saidit only. If they abuse this then they can be muted from the sub in the sub settings. https://github.com/libertysoft3/saidit/commit/b43cc162bcbb3522bcfe498afed16665bc1d86c0

Wow nice turnaround time. Great work! That's a perfect solution. Thank you from myself, and thank you from the mods and users who have complained to me about this a lot. Nice upgrade.

there needs to be the option to appeal, but i can see where the problem is.

I agree with this idea, but only on the grounds that it is opt-in and requires an account to do so.

Edit: Wait. Isn't there already a way to do this?
