Well, this I a bit over the top, but they aren't banned from saying mom, dad whatever. They have guidelines. And it's for when you are talking to people or kids and you don't know how the family identifies. For example, two gay dads may both be dad or mom or one of each but you don't know so you refer to them as "grownups". There is nothing about referring to known moms and dads as mom and dad. It makes me roll my eyes a bit, but if you're going to talk about it please get your facts straight. Some news outlets are publishing the actual guidelines, they arent putting their own spin on it.
