People should support the concept of linux phone so they can install whatever they like on their phone.

I can't believe we don't have a viable linux phone, we need that the most right now, especially as the phone has so many sensors, we need to be sure it's not spying on us.

You can install whatever you want on an Android phone. Just enable third party sources in the settings.

The problem is much deaper than simply using another app on your phone. We're talking kernel and no android.

There are deeper problems but running any app you want isn't one of them

Unfortunately it was to be expected. I remember Gab getting axed from app stores, even Mastodon clients who didn't block Gab had a serious problem. Nice double standard there with Web browsers.

Same thing with browser extensions which are actually more controlled than Android apps. An Android app can at least be installed from a 3rd party app store (e.g. F-Driod) or totally manually after a user enables it in settings, but extensions in FF and Chrome cannot (if it's not cryptographically signed by Mozilla/Google then it will be disabled on a next launch of a browser regardless how the extension was installed, there is no off switch to disable this).

    yeah thats what I meant

I guess the problem is no one will ever hear of parler? But the MSM is giving them free publicity right now

i don't see how google "bans" something

can't you go to parler.com and download it?

Yes, although 90% of mobile users don't know how to install an apk manually.

Or they could just type 'parler.com' in to their phone web browser...

I really don't get why people are so reliant on apps to browse individual web pages. Especially when it's known apps are far more intrusive and gather more data than browsers.

Unfortunately, people are like that. There's a reason tablets became so popular.

Yes, but they won't get notifications and will be less likely to use it in their daily lives.

A good point, but it’d be a good thing if people were to spend less time responding to notifications like they’re an animal subject in a Skinner box.

I don't know if those can do notifications or other advanced things. I think the icon just opens a web browser and points it to the site.
