Yes, Zoom announces that it is a US company but the app's inventor is Chinese. and they are censoring, for example, academic conferencing over the app. They censored one NYU conference that was about Zoom censorship.

Zoom is not monitoring your zoom calls though, they are super in to privacy.

They use zoom at my work and it is so insecure.

yeah they record everything

it's better to use phone conferences, NSA records those of course but it's just better than using internet and we don't really need to see each other

its amazing how rapidly people jump onto branding.... zoom is no better than any other conf service, worse in some aspects but they call it "zoom" and make it bubbly looking and now zoom is just as synonymous with vid confs as band aids are to medical strips.
