maybe saidit could produce some kind of directory of websites, sorted by category with descriptions.

sometimes it is the silly comments like this that can turn a website like saidit into something that competes or overtakes google.

think about it.

Good plan.

an undertaking like this could be best handled by a small team of engineers and designers. one critical issue is that it should be designed using very minimal javascript and keep the html stripped down to a minimum so that it is fast loading..

definitely make the page very very very easy for search engines to index and crawl.

if this project were undertaken in a serious manner, it would not only get a blip on google's radar, but it would actually make google nervous.

my prediction is that google can be toppled, if handled very strategically.

google sucks ass.

We had something like that years ago, it was a site with archived articles. bewareofthis.info

It should be revived again.

A quick and easy way to do this would be using Saidit's wiki (maybe in this very sub). I think mods have to enable the wiki though.

What i'm about to say may sound like old news to some but I sure wish someone had told me. Or that this is emphasized more. when i was in the market for a new phone a couple months ago, none of the websites i visited stressed how insidious google has become lately. Android IS Google. Any android phone now comes preloaded with a ton of fancy new google apps and they all spy on you, everything you do on your phone, everywhere you go, everyone you talk to. It all goes into google's vast databanks.

I'm not exaggerating, the latest phones are absolutely hideous. I go through the apps one by one, disabling almost everything. And yet the next time i think to check, these apps have turned themselves on again and are once again sending info to google.

My previous phone was an adroid and it wasn't even close to being this invasive. I think maybe Blackberry might be the only phone which offers actual privacy from data collectors and info sellers. Normally i wait until a phone needs to be replaced due to malfunction but this is so bad I'm tempted to just throw it away.

You can replace google's android with a free spy-free linux based operating system.
I haven't do it yet, because I only used old phones.

Many are reduced in visibility, not completely censored.
Some depend on your history, you get to see them or not.
Others are hidden depending on your region.

Very common is that it puts a website much lower in ranking when you search for it directly.
This is already present for many topics.

It might not even depend on your history though. I visit sciencedaily.com which is on this list, on a daily basis. I've tried forcing Google News to pull articles from it in the past. Not a single thing from that site ever ends up on Google News no matter what I do.
