Uh the downvoting has already been removed. That's one of the selling points here.

Not down with the censorship and banning. Bad idea.

Bullying? What? Sorry, this is the internet, not a safe space. We play rough. If you block users you won't see their posts, and that's good enough.

Most of the subs here are populated by lovely people who are able to disagree fruitfully. If you don't like the atmosphere in a particular sub, empower yourself to back away, mute that sub, and have a wander to the areas that suit you better.

Have you thought that it's a bit of a weird thing to be in someone else's house for just three days and immediately start talking about how you don't like their housekeeping?

I agree with you re: exploring all opinions. I like this site specifically because I can engage with a variety of points of view without being pepper-sprayed with derision.

Some things you may have missed or misunderstood:

      1) this is not my house and i am not a mod or an owner, just a user

      2) there is no downvoting

      3) there is a block user and a mute sub option (that are admittedly hard to find)

      4) the PoD is here to keep discussion interesting/reasonable and not just a tar pit of name-calling

      5) the other rules are in place to avoid breaking the laws where the server lives so the site doesn't get axed

      6) most of your suggestions are already in place

      7) moderators exist to maintain the Pyramid of Debate which is the model for conduct here

Your main complaint is about censorship--which is minimal here--yet you would like the power as OP to censor the voices you don't like.

Mods only remove posts that grossly violate the Pyramid of Debate. I doubt you would gain any insight reading those comments as they are typically just random slurs. People who harass and name call are given a wide berth before they are removed, which they are only when they persist relentlessly. Maybe you haven't found the block user button, the location of which I regularly forget. Maybe u/magnora7 or u/d3rr can point you to it.

Here is also a page you may have missed, as it also not very obvious: https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/comments/37r/welcome_to_saiditnet/ It explains the way the site works and details the PoD.

It's great that you care about free speech of all varieties. Thank you also for providing suggestions where you've seen room for improvement.

i like no.2. make the op a temporary 'mini mod', but allow the real mod to override his actions, just how the admins can override the mods.

make it an option on the submit form (click 'i want to mod this thread').

take responsibility for your own posts..

      Hmm, idk mixed feelings.

It would at least have to say "COMMENTS MODERATED BY OP" in 36px font when this is happening.

this is all dandy until a tyrant op comes around and starts deleting and banning like crazy (eg: u/snow, u/critias). in which case it is best if the sub mod works on the situation, rather than waiting for the admins to intervene. this is from past experience and i am sure it will happen again. there will always be reckless people who will usurp even the slightest power. and we must keep the admins from being bogged down in drama and let them work on the site.

edit: you are just over your two-week time limit to be able to create a sub, so you can have your freedom even now to both post whatever you want and to be a mod over it

        edit2:

re doing the inverse of what reddit is doing

again, this sounds good, but there is this quite substantial fact that saidit is running on reddit code..
