Yeah bear is actually a she, both of them are, both rescues, bear is around 11 pounds but is a longer furred cat, so it only appears she is large. I found her when she was a tiny, tiny kitten (in a 4 lane road). I'll get some better pics up.

That's not bad, Gizmo was 16lbs last time I weighed him! He might be heavier now, he loves his Temptations treats, especially the jumbo stuffed chicken ones.

. I found her when she was a tiny, tiny kitten (in a 4 lane road).

Same with Gizzie, he was abandoned and my SIL's mother took him in but she's a hoarder and he couldn't stay there so we took him. Had to bottle feed him at first, and he almost died from a nasty mite infestation. I've had other cats I've loved but I think caring for him as a kitten, I bonded with him like one would with a human child.

Good for you for rescuing both of them. So many animals need homes, it breaks my heart. I do what I can for strays but I can't afford medical treatment that some of them need for every stray I meet. I'll feed them and pet them, figure that's something. And when we need a new pet, we take in homeless one. I've never actually paid for an animal.

I'm so glad there's more cat pics lately.

What's Sandals story?

Yeah, I've followed your cats and they're wonderful; I was upset when your cat Peaches died last fall, I fucking wept dude, because I also had to put down my 20 yr old calico around the same time. I was really struck by all that. I keep a food bowl station outside and feed around 5-6 strays. I'll start posting pictures of them because its become somewhat of a hobby seeing who comes and eats. One cat I saw only once had a broken paw and that bothered me terribly, I never found her or saw her/him again. The proper care and veterinarian access is unfortunately expensive.

Sandals came out of a pet store adoption agency 3 summers ago almost exactly. Apparently when my sister and mom went in, she began begging, she does this little begging thing which will melt your heart and you know she was coming home with them. That cat has a friendliness that's profound, she's so human, seems to try to form words sometimes. I brush these two cats (and a third that stays elsewhere in house) obsessively. They know the word "brush" and are exactly like little dogs at this point. I talk to them a lot which seems to have a good effect. Due to my nature and the weird times lately, these two cats have become my best friends. There was an adoption fee for Sandals but that organization is a good one, they deserve it.

There's no more strays here. I hope they got adopted but they all sort of disappeared in a week and I have my suspicions. It was getting a little crazy, at one point I counted 19 cats throughout the complex, although most of those never came around our corner. I took the food bowl inside, nobody was eating it -- although a couple weeks ago something got into our trash so I put food out again and a little appeared to have been eaten. Might have been a possum though.

I talk to my cats too which is everyone thinks is weird. They do certainly seem to know certain words. Gizmo knows his name, "high 5," "treat" of course, "gentle" (if he plays too rough), and "bedtime." The last one is neat, he'll go to the bedroom when the wife is going to sleep. He doesn't do that for me on command, but I leave the bedroom door open and he comes back when he feels like it. Mostly though, besides his handful of words, I think he is responding to my tone.

Sometimes he gives me little kneading massages in bed that are really relaxing, it puts me to sleep. And when he wants to wake me up he'll set off the alarm clock, scratch at a tote, or my preferred method, cuddling next to my head and purring me awake.

What kind of brush do you use? All my cats seemed to somewhat dislike being brushed with the one I have.

Yeah, strays can be a real problem, it's not too bad around here, it's a rural'ish setting. I've seen skunks eating the food at night before, I hate taking it in for the ones that might need it. It was during the deep winter months I was really into this, I have a hutch with straw set up near the food.

I use this cheap, regular brush from walmart. It's blue, with rubbery bristles on one side and prickly metal combs on the other, it works extremely well, I harvest loads of fur. I'd link it but I don't see it online. It's the key to these cats hearts, they come when summoned, never fight and are some of the most content cats I've ever seen.

They're damn nice in bed at night.

Both of their coats look so soft and floofable! They’re both adorable! Sandals looks a lot like my other rescue, KiKi (she’s a tiny thing, I have to submit a photo of her here soon), minus her tuxedo pattern. But they appear to be that same shade of dark, dark red that looks black, but when the light is shining on their fur you can see the dark red highlights (at least it looks like sandals has the super dark red)!

I'm a huge sucker for seeing cats in sunlight, I jump at the photo ops. Almost wish I had a fine coat of fur myself.
