Abandoned at 4 weeks. I was initially against my wife getting a new cat, and it caused problems with Peaches who was in her last year of life -- I still feel bad over that. Like a senior being forced into a nursing home, she suddenly had unwanted roommates after a lifetime of being independent. Had to die with her home being taken over by a new cat.

I'm not sure what kind of life Gizmo would have had. He was infested with mites and had to be bottle fed. The wife and I got the shit bit out of us. And for a month. He was too young for the medicine to kill them yet.

I took him to a vet, tried internet solutions, and nothing worked. Till I had my father mix up a 6% neem oil solution. That is something to remember btw. That actually works and the literature out there isn't great. You can use that on young kittens, it works, and the other internet ideas don't. And the vet didn't know how to fix it.

During that first month there were times I thought he'd die. And I'm no saint, this whole thing was honestly a huge pain in the ass. Wouldn't have been too broken up back then.

Gizmo is just over a year old now. He's really calming down now. Gizzie was a little fucking monster at times. He killed nearly all my garden. Terrorized Peaches. Bit and clawed. He still hisses and the slightest displeasure.

Although to be fair Peaches taught him that. She used to do that to him. Trying to fix that now by socializing him now. My niece comes over to get hissed at and play with him, and we're talking bringing her cat Luna over again to help. Luna is kind of a bitch to him though.

He had the neem oil. Handy shit. It's a contact kill though. Nice because it degrades quickly and won't poison food you're growing. PITA because it degrades quickly and you gotta hit the goddamned pests and their eggs are protected so then you gotta hit the next fucking batch and then you always miss some who hatched late or got missed and repeat until you get lucky and get them all. Or give up.
