We knew this was coming for a while. About a year ago she started sleeping nearly all day, I mean even a lot for a cat. She stopped eating kibble, and then even wet food. For the last several months I've been blending up chicken breast and liver with a nutrient supplement (AlNutrin) for her, that's the only thing she'd eat. I've burned through two KitchenAid blenders doing it, can't recommend that brand of kitchen appliances right now, but maybe their warranty will change my mind. I doubt it.

Yesterday she threw up her food all over herself and her bed. She didn't even complain that much as I washed her. Today she isn't eating, barely drinking, I don't think she has long now. I don't know whether to let her pass naturally or have a vet put her down. She's not in any obvious distress so we may let nature take its course.

I put her outside since she loves our patio. I figure that's where she'd most want to be. She has water, although I can't put food out there because it attracts ants. She's not eating anyways.

She survived her sister Kiki, who passed of saddle thrombus, a terrible way to die. She will be survived by Gizmo, the brother she never wanted. I really wish she didn't have to deal with a kitten at the end of her life, but we didn't decide to get him, he was abandoned at 4 weeks old, infested with mites, and needed a home. He wasn't mean to her exactly, but he wanted to play and she wanted nothing to do with him.

Peaches always hated other cats, even her sister. I think her happiest day was when Kiki died. Oh well, we have Gizzie in the bedroom so as not to bother her in what I'm assuming are her final hours.

p.s. the dark stuff in the photo is soil from the patio, she had been laying in it. I know it kinda looks like poop but it's not.

She passed a half hour ago. I hope she wasn't in pain. This whole last year I knew she wasn't doing great but it's hard to figure when they can't go on anymore. I didn't want to cut what time she did have short. I don't think she was dehydrated, she was drinking well and the water content in the food I made her was high. There were days she ate incredibly well, almost seemed like she'd recover, but I guess those were just her good days.

Damn, I wish I read this comment before I typed mine, I saw your first comment and just started typing.. I'm so sorry to hear that dude. I hope she wasn't in pain either.

    RIP.

It's no fun losing a friend. My condolences internet stranger.

Oh my god, dude.. I'm so sorry 😩, you genuinely have my empathy and condolences. I've been through so much with my cat, KiKi.. She's turning 11 this year.. My first serious relationship, ever.. My first real girlfriend of two years, we were sitting in her backyard one day and we hear water from a pot or metallic container being thrown onto kittens and cats and them screaming. It was mating season, and wild cats had a litter in my ex's neighbor's backyard, and they liked to stay in the corner that was near her backyard, but in theirs.

They would pour boiling hot water on them and the kittens because they didn't want them there, and one day the cats and kittens came rushing over the fence while my ex and I were in the backyard, and we both managed to catch one.. The one my ex caught, she gave to me as our one year anniversary gift (I truly fell in love with this kitten), and I named her KiKi, too (I realize this is only one of your past cat's names, not the Peaches in the OP)..

I'm sorry I'm talking about myself and my cat right now, but I've been through SO fucking much with this cat. I can't imagine losing her, and I can't imagine what you're feeling right now. If I were talking to God, I could sincerely say that this cat, is the one being that has shown me what "unconditional love" is on a "receiving end". I'm currently going through the roughest, and hardest year of my life; I needed to move out for the first time on my own, I'm finishing up Uni and taking intense courses digitally as an epileptic and getting state certifications digitally, as an epileptic.

My cat has got me through so much in a little over decade.. She's been my ride or die.. She's laying on my lap right now, and she was a rescue and was abused. I still remember catching the tiny little black fuzzball covered in streaming water at the end of Fall when Winter was coming.

I can't imagine what you're going through, putting myself in your shoes, honestly. It's more than just losing a cat, it's memories and a companion. I'm so sorry. Also, I don't know about cats as I haven't researched it, but dogs cannot metabolize painkillers like vicodin (what the vet often prescribes, they don't prescribe oxy because some dumbass in the 90's iirc gave his dog one of his 80 mg pills and OD'd his dog), you should look into which pain killing alkaloids or medications cats can metabolize just in case she does start to feel pain.

I know we discussed this with my vet when my dog was passing, and we got the Vicodin switched to Hydromorphone.

Jesus, what kind of monster would throw boiling water on cats!?

I appreciate you sharing your story, it reminds me of good times with Peaches and Kiki. They become more than just pets, they're like family.

As for painkillers, I had a couple gabapentin left from my own prescription, I see that used often to treat cats although imo it's a shitty painkiller. They're real strict about opioids these days.

I’m really sorry I went on so much about my cat; I honestly didn’t mean any disrespect. Just empathizing with you and putting myself in your shoes, I felt horrible and I couldn’t imagine going through the same right now. I’m really sorry this happened, and I know it doesn’t take away from the pain, but I’m glad you were aware something was happening and got to say goodbye 🙁

I live in the city, so things change really fast from neighborhood to neighborhood. My first ex was Hispanic and lived in a really ghetto neighborhood (to be honest), it wasn’t somewhere we would hang out often unless I came home from school with her when her mom wasn’t home (lol her mom would literally refer to me as “gilipollas”, right in front of me lmao), and that was one of those days.

I’m sorry about Peaches dude 😢 You sound like you were a really caring and good companion for your cats, too.

Thank you. She passed away half an hour ago. It went quick and she didn't suffer. She had me there petting her during the end.

R.I.P. Peaches. I'm sure she's had a good comfy life with love and free kibble.
