Man, there's a lot of bullshit around. The fact is, the same % of people get addicted to weed as get addicted to opiates.

Marijuana is a gateway drug in the sense initially it seems really awesome and then people assume they were lied to about drugs being bad.

So they go about trying a lot of drugs. Some get hooked, some don't. That 10% again.

I'm not sure where you read this, but it's 100% false. Also being addicted to weed is nothing like an opiate addiction.

This may happen for a few people, but it's not the norm.

The literature says 4%. My beliefs are from my own decades of experience with drugs and other drug users.

Also being addicted to weed is nothing like an opiate addiction.

Why?

I like you Drewski, don't take this personally, but you have red flags for marijuana addiction. Defending your drug is a cornerstone of addiction. I did it myself once. Tell me, do you make sure you never run out?

Opiate addiction creates strong physical dependence, with serious withdrawals when you stop taking it. People steal to get their heroin / fentanyl fix, weed is just nothing similar. I realize you can get addicted to pretty much anything, junk food, sugar whatever but it's not the same.

Tell me, do you make sure you never run out?

No, I smoke infrequently and don't worry if I don't have any.

Physical addiction is a shitty week or two. It's not fun, but psychological addiction is what can torture you for years.

And weed gets removed slowly from your system. That makes detoxing from marijuana a long process.

I've known a few people get jacked for weed, and I've had fuckers try to lift nugs from my bag. All the guys who sell any weight are armed. If people know they don't have guns they'll just come over and take their stuff.

Is marijuana addictive? Yes it is, but so is caffeine, and the degree matters. Marijuana is more probably addictive than caffeine, but the degree of addictiveness is just not comparable between marijuana and harder drugs like heroin or crack or methamphetamines. People using harder drugs prostitute themselves, go homeless, lose children, get diseases, and risk dying of overdoses at truly alarming rates. The vast majority of marijuana users, even the heaviest addicts are not experiencing anywhere near this level of desperation, and statistically their addictions pose FAR FAR less danger to themselves and others.
