There are some huge problems in the California weed market, but this is very misleading in its lack of specificity.

The market for outdoor marijuana is totally crashed, but thats just because nobody wants schwag here, the market for quality indoor marijuana is quite strong, but there are problems still. Mainly that the 30% Tax rate is driving prices up very high, and consumers are opting to purchase the marijuana on the black market instead. Also the marijuana stores are being blackballed by the banks who won't do business with them due to the federal illegality.

Source: I actually live here and participate in this market

Is marijuana addictive? Yes it is, but so is caffeine, and the degree matters. Marijuana is more probably addictive than caffeine, but the degree of addictiveness is just not comparable between marijuana and harder drugs like heroin or crack or methamphetamines. People using harder drugs prostitute themselves, go homeless, lose children, get diseases, and risk dying of overdoses at truly alarming rates. The vast majority of marijuana users, even the heaviest addicts are not experiencing anywhere near this level of desperation, and statistically their addictions pose FAR FAR less danger to themselves and others.

Opiate addiction creates strong physical dependence, with serious withdrawals when you stop taking it

Physical addiction is a shitty week or two. It's not fun, but psychological addiction is what can torture you for years.

And weed gets removed slowly from your system. That makes detoxing from marijuana a long process.

People steal to get their heroin / fentanyl fix, weed is just nothing similar

I've known a few people get jacked for weed, and I've had fuckers try to lift nugs from my bag. All the guys who sell any weight are armed. If people know they don't have guns they'll just come over and take their stuff.

The largest cartel in Mexico was created by former US agents funded by the US. The government isn't as competent as you think it is. It's incredibly difficult to reel in an entire network with massive proportions.

Now add to the mix if, God forbid they figure out who you are, who your children, wife's family are. If you get a pic of your niece with a clear threat "stop or we will murder her" you bet your sweet ass you're going to rethink that plan you have to topple the cartel. If you don't listen, they murder her. Then you get another pic of your wife....

Why won't the Mexican government just round these people up. They know full well who they are.

Same reason they won't round up the kingpins in the US.
The "crime groups" control the govt intel agencies, and functionally serve as a secret government. Everywhere.

Edit: Indo China was the heart of the heroin trade before and during the Vietnam war. The communists kicked them out, so they moved operations to Afghanistan in the early 80's, until the Taliban kicked them out.

Afterwards, the opium trade dried up... Until 9/11/01.
The western Intel drug traffickers were back in business, and the modern opioid epidemic began.

Fun fact: The US "liberated" the Philippines, so the Yale Skull and Bones deep state could use the archipelagos as a base of operations for the opium war against China.
John Kerry's family business.

The Bush family are also heavily involved (in the heroin and cocaine drug trade, not the Philippines).

IMO, it would be better if you kept the thing about wanting "legit" media coverage - except instead of a hard rule, say that it's "preferred but not a strict rule". I still think it's worth aiming high. (I said "high".)

I am not a moderator of other people, but if I see shit on SaidIt, in my sub or in others', I'll speak up and even call for Daddy M7 to deal with it.

I would consider joining for a bit to add a banner or CSS or whatever you wish - but not until after I do some other things.

Besides, I'm at the stupid arbitrary max limit of 40 subs that M7 set a while back to avoid power mods.

I suppose I could eject from some, and I will when I get help from M7 or D3 to finish my CSS themes for good. But that's not a priority for me right now. I'm redoing my basement for a server/archive room and year-round garden. I take occasional breaks on SaidIt. After that I need to finish my "epic" story. Then I can dedicate some time to SaidIt CSS, WikiSpooks, and my own stuff. I also have nearly 500 messages I haven't gotten to that I feel guilty about.

I don't know if you should relax the rules. Keeping a "reputable" sub with "authoritative" sources is a really good idea. However, keeping track of all the subs rules might get tricky, plus it's ultimately up to the reader to determine what is true or not, regardless of the police, media, corporations, and governments. Obviously I have mixed feelings on it. Perhaps /u/Drewski and others can chime in and/or we could pitch it to /s/AskSaidIt or /s/SaidItSurveys. Maybe there are other topics that might need "authoritative" sources only too.
