Like some of the YouTube commenters said, the quality of ingredients that Pizza Hut went down and turned away a lot of customers. Competition is the biggest reason, though, in my opinion. Pizza Hut was the only pizza place around and it was a dine-in experience. Then, in my area, Godfather's moved in for something a little different. Both were semi-expensive. A large pizza was close to $20 back in the 1980's. You could get a Big Mac, fries, and a drink for less than $3 back then. Once Domino's moved in with delivery and then Little Caesar's with cheap pizza, Pizza Hut's monopoly was done. Now, they are just one of the many.

Oh thats really interesting! Pizza Hut has always been a dine-in place to me with Dominoes being take away only. That essay is much more informative than that YouTube video I posted.

Pizza Hut is closing hundreds of their locations not because pizza is no longer popular. Sales are still strong for the industry and the company as a whole. They are closing because the people who once frequented their restaurants are now lonely, friendless, childless, and without families. In short, they’ve got nobody to sit and eat pizza with. Pizza Huts tended to be found in classic middle-American neighborhoods: lower-middle or middle-class whites with kids. Those places are becoming rarer with each passing year.

The citations links in the essay are also really interesting too: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/17/pizza-hut-to-close-up-to-300-locations-operated-by-bankrupt-franchisee.html

KEY POINTS

Pizza Hut will close up to 300 locations as part of a deal between the pizza chain and its largest U.S. franchisee, NPC International.

NPC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in early July.

The closing Pizza Huts underperform the rest of the chain’s locations, and the majority are expected to be dine-in locations.

that had too much salt, then reduced it because they were criticized for it but then the pizzas didn't taste as good

Most people would be surprised at how much salt and butter are in restaurant food.
