It's probably somewhat related to the Purtanical work ethic, where "suffering = good".

It's not a bad mindset, but it sucks when you take it so seriously that you can't accept others that are successful who didn't have a huge struggle. Sometimes people have it easy, but that doesn't automatically make them bad people, just lucky. Morality and luck have little to do with each other, imo. A lucky person isn't inherently immoral.
