George R.R. Martin and Patrick Rothfuss have totally fucked over an entire generation of new authors. These books dominated their genres for a lot of years, and their fans have been left waiting for over a decade for them to fulfill their promises.

Can Rothfuss influence be compared to Martin's? Martin is obviously one of the most popular writers nowadays, but there many more famous and influential fantasy writers than Rothfuss, e.g. Sanderson.

Considering that The Name of the Wind has twice as many ratings as The Way of Kings, and only half as many as A Game of Thrones (on Goodreads), yes, I'd say it's accurate to compare him to Martin's influence.
