Check out Blake Crouch's "Dark Matter"! The pace is fast and it stays intriguing but light the entire way through. It's also not overly long.

I love The Hobbit, but for some reason I think of that as a fall read. I've read some Sedaris, though. Definitely funny & light. Thanks!

The "Johnson Johnson" series by Dorothy Dunnett. Whimsical spy vs. spy, maidens in distress, sun-drenched Europe long before any current crap started. Great storytelling.
