First of "portrait of an artist as a young man"? That's Joyce not Roth.

If you found Sabbath's Theater perverted you're not going to like Portnoy's Complaint. I happen to like the perverted shit so I loved it and The Professor of Desire.

Some of his stuff is just like that and if you're not into that I guess it might be difficult to figure out which ones don't contain that kind of content. I can tell you that Goodbye Columbus would be up your alley and his short stories also. Check those out. I haven't read any more than that.

Yeah I know Joyce wrote Portrait of an Artist, it is referenced in ghost writer which led me to read it, it's why I mentioned it. I'll definitely check out Goodbye Columbus, thanks for the recommendation!

Edit: autocorrect did me dirty

Just factoids — In Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man Stephen often thinks of a line from W.B. Yeats' poem Fergus: "the white breast of the dim sea." So, it is a quote within a quote.

Roth is 87 now.
