I have the exact same opinion on this. But still I would not forbid myself any kind of music just because I cannot relate to the lyrics. Since music is a language of the mind, the music of a sick mind can be a very interesting thing, because above all it is a very authentic kind of music, since the artist is driven by strong emotional intuition in composing it. Authenticity alone gives music its expressive power, I think. I'm particulary looking for interpretation in that, which my brain finds very stimulating. Identification, on the other hand, does not necessarily take place in my personal music experience. I like my freedom to interpret things as I wish to do, especially the music.

you do have a good point,i also do like music thats different, and i mostly dont listen(or hear/understand the lyrics)and listen to the music itsself,i found that most important.often i dont know what a song is about, and only when i very interested in song im then going check out the lyrics,BUT knowing they sing about something i dont like.or are against that would be strange to listen to,and if they would only sing about white supramecy-like 1 song-that oke,but they stand for that, its al the represent,,,,and that puts me of......to bad because indeed,he sings with very real heavy emotions, from the heart,i like that in music artists

The most authentic music comes from bands where you are unable to understand the lyrics, because they were interpreted with emotions that overturn themselves with their intensity. They create a special kind of power in that kind of music, which is in that form only available in some classics also. Like a wise man once said: "If one's able to understand your lyrics and to read your bands logo, then fuck you"

I for myself really don't need to relate to lyrics to enjoy the music. I can listen to grindcore in the heat of summer and being absolutely aware that those lyrics are not there for me to identify with.
