On a positive note, depressed people have a more realistic perspective. They studied "normal" people and depressed people playing video games, killing aliens. After the game they ask them how many aliens they killed. "Normal" people will over estimate by a wide margin, "5000" while depressed people will estimate far more accurately, "200" when the real number is 187.

I don't recall the exact numbers but that was a real thing, on BBC or something about 5 years ago, stuck in my memory like a fork.
