The Russian ruble is stronger than it has been in years.. The big push towards boycotting Russian oil is because otherwise we're paying for both the Russian and the Ukranian side of the war.

But what's the alternative? Pay them for the oil anyways and let them have Ukraine on the cheap too? The situation is not ideal nor our response fantastic, but I don't see any other real non-nuclear option. We do these blocking moves while we figure out where the hell the oil is going to come from to replace Russian oil.

Whether they actually can absorb those costs without social unrest destroying their ability to control their own populations is the motivation behind this post.

Russia is self sufficient in everything but tech. They're reliant on China mostly for that, Germany to a smaller extent. Every Russian chip probably has a Chinese backdoor in it. They're kinda a Chinese client state at this point. Because of that I don't see the west stealing Russian treasure, but simply seeking to limit their expansion and deny them spoils of war.
