Canada's weird, left-wing, anti-American nationalism. Why do Canadians hate the United States so much? What's the deal with Canadian anti-Americanism? Let's look at the roots of Canada's national identity and talk about why Canadians are obsessed with seeing their country as "not-America."

Canadian guy here and amateur Canadian history buff. I don't think I've encountered a better summation and this guy pretty much nails it. While I admittedly skimmed past the last 5 minutes I'd say he didn't really highlight Quebec's contribution to our modern identity as he could have done. Obviously, being a "French speaking nation in a sea of English" the Quebeckers were even more protectionist and anti-American than Anglo Canadians. Quebec has also generally been more liberal than us staunch and stuffy English banker types, and they have done a lot to usher in social programs including universal daycare and worker's rights and obviously having both French and English recognized as official languages (something that pissed almost everyone off at the time but was legit the right move to have made.)
Just to make it clear though, today I view you Yankees very much like first cousins and I have a lot of love and respect for my American friends despite the fucked up shit you insist on doing still. And the UK is like a distant Aunt who doesn't really care about us anymore outside of sending us a birthday card every year, she's too busy fawning over our youngest cousin Australia.

You can use some of that love and respect to pay your fair share of NATO, you freeloaders.

I agree 100%, our military desperately needs funding but Trudeau keeps pushing billions out to LGBT canoe building charity clubs in Africa and around the world.

canadians are dumb as fuk, most see americans as gun hoe and want to kill everything, in fact most dont understand how owning a weapons is important, they trust the government and want the government to take care of them
this happened because of decades of liberal socialism, they are also very overweight and watch netflix often, and are highly in debt and priced out of their housing market and immigration and high cost of house makes them not have kids
it's not their fault, it's mostly the governments fault, decades of exploiting canadians and only caring about filling their own pockets
but also the government is corrupt and the banking institutions are pretty much controlling and in indebted the governments on purpose
so then you got the citizens divided, they blame immigration or blame skin color, but canadians do not understand the monetary system, as the schools don't teach you anything useful on purpose
so the problem actually goes much deeper, the root of the problem is the banking institutions controlling/blackmailing the canadian dollar, media and politicians
until you fix the banking institutions i cant see the problem getting any better no matter what policies you push
it's really a never ending circle of corruption that the public is unable to see
i would keep your money in bitcoin as the canadian dollar is on its way down more,
all you can do is go online explain to canadians that the that the problem is the monetary system
since this corrupt system has been going on for decades in canada and every other country,
i only see bitcoin slowly changing the system, and it takes power from the bankers

Wut. Are banks are some of the strongest and stable in the world that’s why we didn’t go to shit in 2008 when your over extended fuck head banks who were giving mortgages to crackheads causes the world economy to crash so I don’t know what your on about
[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun - 3 years ago (3 children)
you think banks are stupid enough to give mortgages to crack heads? not even close, it was done on purpose,
the bankers knew exactly what would happen if they gave mortgages to crack heads, eventually everything would come crashing down, banks get bailouts, and banks once again make money off the hard working middle class who loose their homes, jamie diamond know exactly what he's doing
it's coming here as well, and the canadians banks are going to profit immensely once again, canadians live a life of debt, the crash is coming up there

Outside of my mortgage I have zero debt. Debt is a trap and it’s up to people to fall for it or not. Free world, free choice.

you should like those dub fuks at my ex work, "mortgage is not debt" "house is good debt"
sorry to break it to you, but mortgage is debt, you owe the bank money, it's debt and its that simple
i agree people have the freedom of choice, but we are NOT living in a free world, many countries out there are not free, so you mean, Free canada, free choice? well im sorry to break it to you but canada is not free either
have you tried to start your own bank in canada? guess what, u wont get far, you will be blocked so fast, and needs shitloads of money, even if you somehow be able to start your own bank, the big banks will bring you down so fast, why? because they are in bed with the government, the big banks will pay off the politicians, the big banks have a monopoly and the government protects them
banks control the canadian dollar, thats not a free world to free canada
one the good side, we might be heading into a more free world, since bitcoin is not owned by the bank or canadian government, then the canadian dollar, government and banking institutions have to compete against Bitcoin
myself, i dont have debt and i use bitcoin everyday now, fuck the canadian dollar

Mortgage is debt but it’s debt backed by hard assets. It’s debt where I have a tangible thing which I can sell unlike debt that kids rack up on useless college degrees and debt spent on going on vacation. I consider that good debt because it yeilds realty that can be sold to recuperate debt or even yield a return.
I’m not interested in starting my own bank but we have a new coop in town and there’s been a number of new ebanks like tangerine that have popped up in the past few years.

"Self proclaimed Canadian nationalist"
Lots of Chinese in Canada right now. How do we know these just aren't the views of the Chinese?

Because they're not Chinese any more. They're Canadians! As Canadian as maple syrup.

It seems pretty obvious to me--establishing a national identity living next to the loudest country in the world when your backgrounds aren't that different.

It's fucking stupid. Instead of an identity based on who they are, it's based on who they aren't.
That's no way to run a country. Well, what do you expect from the cowards who ran away to lick the boots of royalty instead of stay and make their own decisions.
