All I can think of is the "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" banner with George Bush, for the war that ended up going on for another 5 years... hopefully not this time though.

I do wonder about the people who wanted to use ISIS as leverage to overthrow Assad and take Syria... what're they thinking now? What's their new game plan? Does this mean they'll be forced to do the "Assad gassed his own people, we must intervene and overthrow the government for humanitarian reasons" ploy they've already tried 3 times over the last 10 years?

I guess we will have to see.

another 5 years

It's not too big of leap to call ISIS the continuation of the Iraq war into today. I fear your thought is spot on, it's easy to say something is over.
