I love this post.
I've been saying this for decades. Make them free.
Raise taxes, tax gas, tax tires, etc. if necessary, as long as there's gooduniversal basic transportation. This is a legit way to prevent pollution or the alleged climate change.
Further, make the diversify the public transport passenger options. For example: 1) large open space up front for socializing. 2) midway sectioned off parts for people who don't want to socialize or smell someone else 3) a flat bed in the back for small electric vehicles to mount or dismount and people can remain in their tiny e-cars. Eventually autonomous vehicles may use this too, so you can sent your e-cart to the grocery store and it can return filled (of course locks and security cameras would deter theft).
