This story is fascinating. For sure I support it. It's funny to see MSNBC hosts and liberals/progressives not supporting the removal of these troops. Just absolutely bizarre. Thanks for posting!

No problem. Haha I can imagine. I remember when I used to think liberals were anti-war but apparently they've been bought out all the same when it comes down to it. Plus they're addicted to wanting to the opposite of whatever Trump wants, it's good for their ratings unfortunately.
I actually wrote an article about this exact subject a few months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/magnora7/comments/8qtq40/remember_when_the_democrats_used_to_be_antiwar/
I guess some blogs picked it up too now that I'm looking through the google results: https://world-wide-democracy.com/articles/remember-when-the-democrats-used-to-be-anti-war.html

Neat.
Anyway, I'm curious to see if they actually pull out, or if this is just posturing and they're doing it as a pretext to some invasion 6 months from now. "We tried to be hands off, but Assad gassed his own people so we have to invade" is a narrative they've already tried to justify invasion with twice in the last 10 years, so I imagine we'll see some iteration of that again in 6 months or a year or whatever.
But any way you slice it, I'm glad to see action towards de-escalation of wars. That's something we saw with North Korea and Trump as well, and I feel like it's one of the few things going right with his administration, and it really blows my mind how many left-leaning people somehow figure out a way to be against that.
Just goes to show how much the military-industrial complex has captured both parties, and both sides of the news media as well.

The Pentagon said it was transitioning to the "next phase of the campaign" but did not give details.
from npr:
"The Coalition has liberated the ISIS-held territory, but the campaign against ISIS is not over," said spokesperson Dana White. "We have started the process of returning U.S. troops home from Syria as we transition to the next phase of the campaign. For force protection and operational security reasons we will not provide further details. We will continue working with our partners and allies to defeat ISIS wherever it operates."
I'll give Trump a win if this happens for real. I think we've heard nearly this same story before like a year ago.

They are preparing for the stock market crash.

That was my thought too. Then they can link the idea of military withdrawls to stock market crashes. Then when war is eventually re-declared, the market booms again. This way everyone associates war with personal profit, even if the stock numbers are gamed in reality.

Wow. That was not what I had in mind but that's good advanced thinking.
I was thinking more like, pre-crash military austerity, bunkering down, and/or maybe unleashing hell on the homeland trying to "maintain order" as they pull out the last supports.
Or a fake to the left.

Could be that too, who knows. Syria is the "tip of the spear" when it comes to US engagements abroad, so I'm kind of surprised they would scale that particular endeavor down as a budget measure. Seems more like a political ploy to me, especially given the high-profile media coverage.
