The Chinese government even released fake videos of people dropping dead in the street because they thought the virus would be more deadly than it was.

Why would they do that if they hadn't released it and had a whole plan of propaganda to follow?

Likely. All computers have hardware backdoors and if the virus could be released by a simple change on a computer, it could easily be done.
