France fells centuries-old oaks to rebuild the Notre-Dame Cathedral spire. President Emmanuel Macron announced last summer that the spire would be reconstructed as originally designed, launching the hunt for the 1,000 oaks required to build the spire and the frame of the cathedral's transept.

"A French student admits to lying about Samuel Paty and the lesson that led to his death. The social studies teacher was beheaded last year for showing his students cartoons of the Islamic prophet Mohammed.

There was a lot of fuss about the lesson after the student's father criticized social media and called for action. Among other things, the girl had wrongly told her father that all Muslims were requested by Paty during class to leave the classroom. This is said to have happened when he showed the cartoons. She accused Paty of Islamophobia.

The girl herself was not in class during the relevant lesson on freedom of expression and blasphemy. She told her father that she had been suspended for criticism she had expressed in class, writes Le Parisien, because she did not want to disclose the real reason at home.

The student is being prosecuted for slander. Her father is suspected of complicity in the murder of Paty. Due to the hate campaign on social media, a Muslim extremist tracked down the 47-year-old teacher. The man killed Paty, after which he himself was shot by the police."
