My friend was just talking to me about these types of loopholes. Apparently, it's easier to gain citizenship via the criminal justice system then through the more difficult standard procedure. I don't know if that applies in this situation, but Irish woman is like "can I help you in your situation?" And then the men we're ready for Choo-choo time to catch a ride to jail. It's just terrible.

It might be true for some EU countries where the time spent on their soil, even in prison, might be accounted for when a request for legal papers is formulated. It's fucked up but European administrations often have plenty of inconsistency and incoherence.
