Shouldn't it depend on a comprehensive analysis of all the factors?

The answer is an unequivocal "No" if it's just an automatic response.

America is pledged to fight to the death, up to and including the use of nuclear weapons, to defend Germany.

Germans don't think they should have to fight for for other NATO members, even though that's the entire premise of NATO in the first place. You can see how people think they're complete selfish assholes.

You don't think the majority of Germans publicly rejecting the entire premise that NATO was founded on, that of collective defense?
