Forgive me, but why should I be excited that we're going to import yet another population of Muslims, just because it pisses off China?

Agreed. Genocide is wrong but we don't need to become the Islamic republic of the united states because of it.

You don't need to be excited about it. Be pragmatic. Not preparing for culture clashes and competition for resources is exactly where the left go wrong with immigration time and time again but no one needs to run the system that way. They're just lazy.

The philosophy and beliefs of Islam are fundamentally at odds with Western values and culture. It's not a matter of resources. It's a matter of "these people will be allowed to vote". It's always been the glaring crack in Democracy.

However American has proved it's much better at integrating Muslims than Europe. Most American Muslims are strongly pro America. That isn't the case in the old world. We need to recognise when Americans are doing something right rather than just moaning about them the whole time.

The secret sauce is very little welfare. Participate in our capitalism or perish.

I think actually encouraging people to stand up and say they are proud of their country has some positive effect as well.

I mean to become citizens, there's a lengthy education and confirmation process. No such process exists to be a refugee or a visa worker. The muslims near where I live even mostly send their children to charter schools to avoid mainstream American curriculum. Granted Catholics do the same thing, except Catholics are more patriotic than the average person (which is odd considering they used to be quite persecuted here).

Well they aren't so much going to separate schools to avoid the mainstream curriculum but to avoid their daughters mixing with boys. Where there are single sex state schools they fill up with Muslim girls. They don't care at all about their sons mixing.

But, yeah, it's the general culture more than the citizenship process. Americans are proud to be proud of their country. That's not as common in Europe.

The charter schools I'm familiar with are mixed-gender. But yeah I suppose. Nations are only as strong as their citizens' belief in and support for them.

As a German, are you unable to say that you are proud of your country? Is that frowned upon? I couldn't understand why Germans wouldn't be proud of being German, even your pre-Rome days were grade-A badass

We get another potential Ilhan Omar clone, and Ilhan Omar gets another potential voter.
