Don't know for sure. I can point you to other's estimations, though. Standard breakpoints are 1.5,2,3,3.5,4,4.5,5.5,6 million. Let's pick 4? Like I said, I'm not a historian and I didn't live through it. Not sure the relevance though.

Well I dont know what the actual number was either, and the person who said why does it matter does have a point in that it was horrible and shouldnt have happened regardless of whether it was 2, 4 6 or whatever. But a lot of things happened during ww2 that shouldnt have happened, and there's plenty of blame to go around for that. It wasnt as clear cut as good guys vs evil guys, and I say that as someone whose grandfathers fought for the "good guys". Including one who fought from France to Germany as an infantryman. During the 60s and 70s there was a bit of a reappraisal of what happened in the war, led by authors like Kurt Vonnegut that painted a more complicated picture. Since then we've regressed back to a simplistic Hollywood jingoistic view of the war with cartoon like villains vs heroes. Its been done for political reasons and its sad, because the truth matters, especially if you truly want to know WHY things happened the way they did.

Well stated.
