I don't think you understand the meaning of this song. This is a reference to Jesus talking with a gentile woman, where he denies her claiming he only came for the Israelites. She compares gentiles with dogs that eat the bread crumbs of their masters and he agrees to help her.
"Dog days are over" means the days of the gentiles being in control is over.
