This is why I moved from Reddit. A mod and I are currently in a tiff and they are plastering me a liar (even though I have screenshots of multiple unrelated removed posts and screenshot that gathered up to me being banned) and all I did was say I got banned off r/legaladvice & they went off on a tangent calling me stupid and whatnot. Not my type of tea. Especially from a r/The_Cabal

Sounds like a powertrip from what you're describing... what a terrible fate for that innovative communication/forum setting that Swartz had in mind. God rest his soul.

Today out of the blue forwardsfromklandma banned me for "rule 3" which is the "no wrongthink" rule of their sub. Thing is I never even participated in their sub, nuh uh not once. Didn't bother asking why, just sent them a few wrongthink words. They muted me lol

[–]BrokenDreams 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (9 children)

At some point they are just going to ruin so many subs, people will be forced to leave. Was hoping this would happen sooner rather than later.

Wishful thinking. Reddit is huge, absolutely huge. Most people don't get involved in controversial topics. They post, and think /r/politics is moderate, and wonder why Trump isn't in jail yet and wish they could have Obama back.

[–]WhoFlu 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I searched Reddit for Obamagate, sorting by top-votes. It's like the entire website is blissfully unaware. I mean, there are even clear audio recordings now of Biden colluding with the president of Ukraine which sound creepily like they're sucking eachother off over the phone celebrating a money-laundering scheme.

The thing with a social-media exit is that we don't need a platform like Reddit or Facebook to die, just enough people to exit those platforms for smaller platforms. If 1% of people left Reddit, and 0.5% came here, and another 0.5% to Ruqqus, that would be more than enough traffic to launch two competing platforms. Over time, people would continue to drift over when they realize that Reddit actually kinda sucks and there's other viable alternatives.

Yes but we want them to come here because we know saidit admins have pledged to keep this site free from government influence/nonsense.... That's the goal, right?

[–]BrokenDreams 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

I never said we didn't want them to come here, the point I was making is Reddit will crash on its own and people will be forced out to other platforms, hopefully Saidit.

[–]JasonCarswell 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

It won't crash. It will keep getting pumped full of money via the corporatocracy and deep state to control the normie sheeple. All they need is the majority.

There's no shortage of Facebook scandals yet the sheep stay on.

[–]H3v8 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

So the sheep flock there while those who are not sheep seek an alternative and end up here or elsewhere. It is so difficult to have a meaningful discussion there these days. Maybe it's a good thing that those who can't think for themselves are self-restrained in their bubble.

I've often considered that too. If the waters aren't muddy it's more enjoyable to swim in and to discover new things.

But when you go back to their desert and try to explain the colours of a coral reef they have no clue and you're speaking a foreign language to them.

Agreed, I try to keep a chart of the percent chances that something might happen within a specific time-period. While I still think a massive Digg-style exit in the next 2 years is less than 50%, I place a moderate-exit at above 50%. I keep noticing things slowly heating up on Reddit.

In a way, it seemed like the Ellen Pao incidents in 2014/2015 should have driven people off the side, but didn't. Now it 2020, the censorship and information control is absurd, and politics are fucking everywhere, and they've banned large segments of political discussion to the point approximately half the political spectrum is completely suppressed.

It's not just politics either, as I've seen most of my non-political and hobby related subreddits have gone down the drain. There's a noticeable increase in fun, interesting, exciting, or thoughtful content and the instant anything slightly political comes up it's like a flock of circle-jerkers show up out of nowhere pushing highly biased off-topic political nonsense.

What I mean is Reddit has become MUCH less fun, interesting, and educational than it used to be. The very reasons for going to Reddit in the first place are gone, especially if you try to stay out of politics. Personally, I intend to "self-ban" myself from politics again (this would be the 3rd time) once this corona-virus shit is over, it destroys my happiness and free time in a huge way.

reddit just killed my account because i was a mod of an anti-gallowboob subreddit. fucking gay shit.

[–]canadian_goosen 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

OML I'm sorry that happened but I believe it. That's hilarious. I SWEAR I blocked that mod (along with others), yet everytime I click on a link of all the bad mods list (y'know that one that keeps getting taken down), the user is unblocked?? Like the could somehow refuse a block?? I'm not sure. But one this IS for sure, it Reddit is dying. Hoping Saidit takes off well and expands when Reddit loses all their decent users. Hopefully the trash won't follow onto here.

the rats will inevitably end up here, unfortunately.

saidit sucks shit anyway

Better than CIA ran reddit

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 5 fun5 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 5 fun -  (3 children)

We're keeping the codebase alive at least. We're gonna make a pure reddit clone option soon. 90% of other clones don't scale up for shit.

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

What does that mean "pure reddit clone option"?

As you know but for readers's sake, IMO, and it's no easy task, if SaidIt or any serious competition were to go "big" their last great defensive strategy would be decentralization. For example, file sharing is certainly huge, though they won't admit it or discuss it sanely - almost like dynamic silence.

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 4 fun4 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

Right now if you install our code you get saidit- your logo, our two upvotes and no downvote, etc. But we should really have an option for people who want traditional reddit- up and down vote, the old blue theme, etc. We're forcing the few people that care to have saidit which I'm sure has been a turn off for a few.

Oh dynamic silence, interesting.

I'm still committed to decentralization, it's the only path forward, but the devil is in the details.

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I'd love to see the option to add other vote options (ie. down, archive, etc.) and for the votes to potentially be qualitative (ie. 1-10, a percentage, or 4 stars).

I'd be happier if the karma points weren't 2 for insightful but just 1. And instead of adding them together for a total, just have separate tabs that rank on specific votes: insightful, fun, down, archive, etc. If you really wanna get tricky activate more than one each to add them.

Easier said than done, but food for thought - and since you are going through all of that effort, maybe improve on the limited old/current Reddit model.

IMO, dynamic silence is a big but under discussed form of censorship (in addition to soft censorship, shadow banning, moving the goalposts, rigging the rules, brigading, manufactured outrage, etc.).

Don't be so complacent. Saidit will one day be great

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 3 fun1 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

It already is. Freedom is great.

[–]canadian_goosen 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Do y'all have any recommendations of subs on here I can get into?? I'm sorry, I'm not completely stupid, but I'm still learning the functions of Saidit. To be perfectly honest, I'm unsure if I'll be smart enough to make this message post, and I do not know how to "upvote" your awesome responses TIA

[–]comments 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Hey, welcome! Personally I just browse the front page since SaidIt is still pretty small. Sometimes I use the "new" and "comments" tab.

What kinds of subs do you like? Ones about, uh, geese and/or Canada?

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Ultimately it depends on your interests.

Last year I tried to classify all the subs on SaidIt into groups. I didn't finish, but got a fair start on it. And in the last year there's likely been close to as many new subs created. It's still not a bad place to start if you have specific fields of interest:

https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/wiki/multisubs

For more information about SaidIt visit the FAQ: https://saidit.net/wiki/index#wiki_faq_frequently_asked_questions

And for detailed help using Markdown: https://saidit.net/wiki/Commenting

/s/all is where the new stuff comes in. In your preference you can set it as your default front page - as I believe it currently defaults only to "subscribed".

Welcome aboard. (I'm not an admin, just friendly.)

I honestly think that the main reason of why reddit is a shitty site is the redditors themselves not necessarily the mods (though the mods are corrupt and terrible too).

Why would I want more of them here?

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 3 fun1 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

I'm guessing the OP means to target good people and content - not just randomly advertise.

[–]WhoFlu 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

This title is an opinion piece, but doesn't really present evidence of that opinion, which I think is unfortunate. "I have an opinion, change my mind" doesn't really contribute much to a topic, other than setting the stage with implicit or explicit assertions. You're partially right or wrong depending on exactly what you mean.

It's difficulty to know the intent of the moderators of WatchRedditDie, however there is an increasingly strict clamp-down by Reddit Admins on of what is, or isn't allowed to be posted on Reddit, and failure to enforce that by the Mods will result in the Admins banning that subreddit. Without r/WatchRedditDie, it would be much more difficult for people to find their way over to Saidit, Ruqqus, and other alternatives. The moderators of that subreddit do appear to try to unlock as much as they can, or post why they had to remove a specific piece of content.

I personally have had relatively free reign to promote Saidit and Ruqqus, and had most of my comments approved. I keep telling people to head over to these places that are outside Admin reach, and get off Reddit, if they really want free speech, and really want to expose Admin/Mod abuse.

Reddit is ran by the CIA you can look at their posts that they "approve of" on the front page and on the "news" subreddits, no connection to reality, no connection to what the US is actually doing. And all of sudden watch reddit die bans everyone and starts posting anti china memes, so was that all an accident? No. Reddit has been used as a propaganda outlet and they will do everything they can do stop people from joining watch reddit die and coming here. So yes, you dont need video footage of them doing it, just look at their actions.

[–]WhoFlu 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I completely failed to read your post correctly the first time, my bad. I thought you were saying that r/WatchRedditDie was censoring content  Not enough coffee probably.

Yeah, they censor watchredditdie to protect their interests.

It's true. God bless.
