That’s less time I have at school per week.

Been tried, there's a productivity boost for 2 weeks and then it goes down drastically.

Actually the Netherlands has higher productivity in 25 hours a week than the US does in 50

Oh look, it's a Dutch out to tell us how much America sucks and how superior Holland is.

How unusual.

No I'm an American who desperately wishes we had the Dutch system because the US system is nutters and I'm tired of seeing people worked to death for peanuts

I just googled to see productivity rankings and briefly looked at several sources, and all of them rank the United States higher than the Netherlands.

GDP per capita per hour is higher in the netherlands. And also GDP per person is higher, meaning they produce more in 25 hours than americans do in 50, probably because they're not so tired all the time!

Again, not from what I saw. I looked at the top 5 or so Google results that ranked worker productivity by country, and the US ranked higher in each of them.

I guess you're right, thanks for the correction: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_%28PPP%29_per_capita

But they're closed, ranked 10th and 12th here. And then when you consider the GDP per hour, the netherlands is getting much more bang for the buck because they're matching the US but only working 25 hours a week instead of 40-50. I wish we could bring that level of free time to the US

But they don't work 25 hour weeks in the Netherlands. Where did you get that number?

That just means there are a lot of part-time workers. If you sign a contract for any normal job it will be 40 hours a week.(maybe 35, like Norway, not sure). But not 25 or 29.

[–]magnora7[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Yes but in the Netherlands you can ask for less hours at your job and receive proportionally less pay, and the employer has to approve this if you ask. So a lot of them are actually full-time jobs, just worked with less hours.

I think you're confusing Finland for Sweden

No.

Olen suomalainen is a Finnish song. I can tell you have not met any Finnish people.

If you do meet any, ask them what happened to their pork and their bacon.

24 hours in a week seems massively low.

More 3-Day weekends would help and shorter work days would help but this is ridic.

The #1 thing America needs is a more staggered work day and/or increased work from home. Not only is "rush hour" in major metro areas bad for the environment, it's massively deflationary toward worker enthusiasm and wastes everyone's time.

Employers should be mandated to stagger employee start/end times unless they can show exceptional circumstances.

Netherlands has an average of 25 hour work weeks, and they're doing great. Plus most Americans are actually at like 50/hr/week instead of 40, in reality

50 is conservative.
