So I've finally been banned, permanently, from Reddit. On one hand I'm surprised it took them this long (not for lack of trying, prior bans I got overturned), and on the other I'm surprised at how stupid the excuse was.

Rule 1 violation. My message stated:

After reviewing, we found that you broke Rule 1 because you promoted identity-based hate or attacks. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people. We don’t tolerate promoting hate based on identity or vulnerability, and any communities or people that encourage or incite violence or hate towards marginalized or vulnerable groups will be banned.

As a result, we’re removing the violating content and permanently banning your FThumb account from Reddit.

Sounds harsh. What did I do? In a thread that broke down in discussing whether the US is controlling Israel or is Israel controlling the US, I asked a question, simply, "We have 30 Cabinet members, of the 30, how many are Jewish by birth or marriage?" That was pretty much it. (The answer is 28 of the 30, but I didn't provide an answer.)

Reddit has a clause in their Rule #1 that reads: "Post promoting harmful tropes or generalizations based on religion (e.g. a certain religious group controls the media, or consists entirely of terrorists)."

This was certainly what admins used to justify a permanent ban, and my appeal pointing out that there's a difference between a generalization/trope ("All Jews control the media") and a simple factual data-point that I didn't even answer asking how many of our 30 Cabinet members were Jewish as an argument in the context of which side is "the Boss" (that was the operative word in context of the discussion).

I wanted to point out that this seems an odd clause considering I don't think anyone would consider Jews to be "marginalized or vulnerable groups of people" in today's modern world.

As a side note, I also informed admins in my appeal that my wife, and half of my immediate family and social circle are Jewish, and that no where in all of my comment history will they find any derogatory or bigoted comments against Jews.

No matter, the appeal was denied as fast as it was submitted. The Kangaroo Court had had enough of this dissident outlier.
