If you want to say that we are not a politically effective community, I agree. However, I don't think there is such a thing, apart from those who have money. But, we are an online community for purposes of discussing politics, even if we aren't Bilderburgers.

We aren't focused on assisting our fellow man

How do you know? Or, do you assume that there are only one or two ways to focus on helping others?

I, for one, beg to differ. I am focused on helping others and I have little doubt other WOTBers are as well.

I've also tried my damndest to get other WOTBers to focus on helping themselves and others, instead of focusing on politics and waiting for a politician savior to do that. For just one thing, I wrote a series of OP's about ways in which one can help poor people, apart from writing a check (because not everyone can write a check). And I say it every chance I get.

Also, learning and focusing and the rest are great, but doing is critical. If you can volunteer for a union or a community kitchen or whatever, do that. If you can volunteer for a union that serves its members, do that. I did, one night a week for several years, until I became management. If you can join a picket line during your lunch hour or on way to or from your own job, do that. If you can organize your workplace, by all means, do that. If you can write a check, do that. Anything is better than nothing. Or waiting for a politician to fix anything. That's worse than nothing.
