The creator of Pushshift has been offline due to family issues, so wasn't able to make any of the changes the admins wanted (like paying for API access). He's back now and trying to engage to get things up and running again:

Still shitty of Reddit to disable their access BEFORE the API changes actually go live, which is supposed to be in June. Seems like they really would just prefer to shut it down entirely.

They're using it as an excuse. The default mods have had a plot to shut it down for years because it can uncensor everything they remove, and complained that access to deleted or removed content should be limited to default mods only.

Reddit wants to provide its own "alernative" without that functionality.
